F-Gas Regulation - Phase-down - HFC refrigerant reduction

Following the CFC ban, the refrigeration industry is faced with new challenges. The aim is to reduce F-gas emissions within the EU by 70% until 2030. The GWP measures the impact of refrigerants on the greenhouse effect. For instance, R134a has a GWP of 1430, which means 1 kg of the refrigerant would contribute just as much to the greenhouse effect as 1430kg CO2. The phase-down prescribes the incremental reduction of HFCs (e.g., R134a, R404A). The EU proposal allows for more stringent targets. Refrigerants with a high GWP will disappear, while low-GWP and natural refrigerants will become more important. It is advised to change over in good time.
